Hunting Guidelines Regulations by Province in Canada

Being a smart hunter is knowing, in advance, the rules. Abusing the rules hurts all of us. So, to help you out, we have put together this guide that lists the hunting rules and regulations for each province and territory in Canada.

As these pages will be updated yearly by each province, make sure you check  in the late spring so that you can make sure you are aware of any changes that may affect the area in which you wish to hunt.

Most of these main pages will take you to other pages specific to what you wish to hunt, such as moose hunting, deer hunting, elk hunting, bird hunting. There is also information on when the draws take place and how to get into the draws.

Alberta Big Horn Sheep Sets Record

We all know that Alberta is a hunters paradise with some of the hunting in the world. In fact, Boone and Crockett Club list that Alberta is home to the four records in this category. Now add the world record to Alberta’s trophy case! This recent sheep that was just killed by a vehicle was measured and confirmed at 209 4/8″.

The rancher had watched the 14 year-old ram for years come down from the mountains to lick road salt and always wondered if it would be the last time. Unfortunately the ram was killed by a vehicle. You sort of wonder what that vehicle must look like after this collision. The Calgary Sun has the rest of the story here.

How To Build An Igloo

For many of us it has been a long, cold and snowy winter. A lot of us really don’t care about that, especially if your a winter hunter. We’re not a bunch of sissy metro-sexuals who worry about getting salt stains on those fancy shoes. Heck, if you’re like me then you’ve spent many hours perched up in a tree with blowing winds or on the crest of a hill, watching across the valley, lying in waist-deep snow when it’s 30 below. That’s what we do when we hunt.

So, for those of you that do prefer the hunting lifestyle, have you ever thought about building an igloo? I used to build then in my back yard simply by piling up all the snow, packing it down, then tunneling inside and carving out an inner section that I could use as an igloo.

But what about the true definition of building an igloo. Right, I am talking about taking snow blocks and building it in the traditional fashion. Ever tried it? I have heard there is an art to building an igloo.

Maybe this is the year to give it a shot. And, to learn just how to do it, check out this great video I came across.  It will show you just how to build an igloo.

We may just give this a try out for ourselves and see how it works. Let us know if you try it because we are curious to see anything you come up with.

Hunting Season 2014 Is Behind Us

With the hunting season now behind us, this is a great time of year to start reviewing  many different things. Yes, there are a bunch of wildlife that may have escaped us this season, but we all know that we will be back!

One thing that I start doing as soon as home after hunting is reviewing my equipment. This includes my guns, gear, trailer, quads, snowmobiles, and pretty much everything else that I take with me when I head out for the season.

Doing this over the next couple of months allows me time to update things over time instead of doing everything in a rush when fall approaches. It is also a good way to save money. Lots of things go on sale during the slower season, so look around at your local hunting stores and outdoors retailers.

I also like to price watch things that I may need. Keep watching as there are always deals to be had. This is also a good way to spread your dollars out over time so that you don’t get hit with a big amount of expenses when it is peak season for the things that you need.

Want to start seeing some of the new gear that is out there? Look into the various sporting shows that should start happening as early as February. These are great ways to see a lot of hunting gear and accessories in one place. You can browse around all day, see the various vendors and talk with their reps to gain great knowledge.

Deer Hunting – Elk Hunting

Yes, I am still off in the bush right now hunting deer, elk, and anything else that I am legally entitled to hunt. I’ve been back to town a few times, but just to get more ammunition! It has been an interesting season, I must say.  There’s been a close call with a black bear and no gun. That was an interesting story and you’ll enjoy hearing that one.

As soon as I get things all finished off and back to technology I’ll start putting up my pictures and videos of my recent deer and elk hunting successes, new things I learned, and about things that didn’t go the way I planned.

Hunting is always a learning experience.

Hunters Rejoice! The Great White Hunter Has Arrived!

Yes, it is true. The Great White Hunter has welcomed in the 21st century and is going digital. OK, I’ll be honest, I am not really doing it, my brother is going to set this up for us here.  However, I have the fun part of the deal which is telling my hunting stories, posting videos, providing tips and tricks that I’ve learned from my experiences so that you can enjoy the sport of hunting that much more.

Now, the 2014 hunting season is nearly upon us. That said, I am getting ready, loading up on supplies and making sure to bring back some great information to share with everyone here very soon.
